Window Replacement — Garfield Ridge5201 S Natchez Ave, Chicago, IL 60638 (Garfield Ridge)
A Garfield Ridge homeowner reached out about a drafty, fogged-up picture window with visible water damage on the sill. Cousins Construction removed the old unit, discovered extensive rot in the sill plate and rough framing, rebuilt the opening with new pressure-treated lumber, and installed an energy-efficient Lindsay 3-lite vinyl picture window with two operable end vents.
The Project
One Crew. Inside & Out.
The original 1950s picture window had failed seals and was letting moisture into the wall cavity. Once we pulled the unit, the rot was worse than expected — the sill plate and lower studs had to be cut out and rebuilt before the new window could go in.
We replaced the framing with pressure-treated 2x material, wrapped the rough opening with flashing tape, and set a new Lindsay vinyl picture window with Low-E glass. Exterior aluminum coil wrap and interior trim were finished the same day so the family wasn't left with an open wall overnight.
The homeowner now has a tight, energy-efficient window with better sightlines, no drafts, and a sill that will outlast the house.
